The Five Marks of Mission of the Anglican Communion

The mission of the Church is the mission of Jesus Christ. It’s about us joining in with the work of God in the world as disciples of Jesus. As people of various ages, with different gifts and in different places, we seek to do the work Jesus calls us to for the good of our world.

We seek to shape our mission and all we do as a church according to the Five Marks of Mission:

  • To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
  • To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
  • To respond to human need by loving service
  • To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation
  • To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and to sustain the life of the earth

The Anglican Communion website explains the background to the Five Marks of Mission and points the way to making these ringing affirmations a reality in local churches and congregations.
